McKenzie Catron, 19, never went anywhere without her dog Kai and that included her spring break trip.
Tragically, while driving through Dothan, Alabama, Catron struck a utility pole and died. Kai took off from the scene and was no where to be found.
Local police officers, firemen, and hundreds of local volunteers combed the area looking for the pit bull. Local law firm Cherry & Irwin Trial Lawyers, offered a $1000 reward. It was Benjamin Irwin himself, one of the lawyers who offered the reward, that ended up finding the dog. Walking in a suit through the woods he was able to locate Kai and bring her to safety. Irwin donated the reward money to a local animal shelter.
Sgt. Whaley drove the dog 770 miles from Alabama to Catron's family home in Arkansas. The family felt that having Kai home would help the healing begin after such a terrible tragedy stating: "For us, it was just a part of her. And we found it. And now we can kind of start healing."
