9 Compliments For Dogs That Are WAY Better Than "Cute"

Lindsey Gardens Dog Park - Salt Lake City, UT - Angus Off-Leash #dogs #puppies #cutedogs #dogparks #saltlakecity #utah #angusoffleash:

The word "cute" has been over-used and is simply much less appreciated than a lot of other descriptive words. What pet parents really want to hear is a compliment unique to their dog.

If you're struggling to find a good compliment for someone's dog, try one of these! We can guarantee you'll feel much better, and the owners will walk away with a genuine smile on their face.

1. Handsome

Handsome is probably our favorite descriptive word for dogs. The word itself has a strong tone to it, bestowing the utmost respect to any and all those called so.

If you call someone's dog "handsome," you are not only making them feel good about their dog, but also themselves.

2. Well Mannered or Well Behaved

There is no better compliment than "well behaved" when it comes to dogs. Having a well behaved dog isn't something that just happens! Owners have to work endlessly on training and manners in order to have a well behaved dog.

The best thing you can do is compliment someone on their dog's manners.

3. Mature

Another human quality used to describe dogs!

This one is similar to "well mannered," but can also be used to describe dogs who are aging well. You can also use this word when talking about dogs who are growing out of their puppy stage.

4. Graceful

Dogs are not the most graceful creatures. Bully parents know this all too well!

If you see a graceful dog doing his thing, point it out! Chances are, his owner probably already knows that he's a regal and majestic beast, but it doesn't hurt to give him a little ego boost.

5. Stunning

The word "stunning" is commonly tossed around on social media to describe girls with nice hair and makeup, but isn't one found in the wonderful world of canines.

As dog parents, we encourage you to take back this word and use it to describe the truly impressive creatures on this planet. Dogs!

6. Kind

Kindness is not a learned trait. There are those who are born kind, and those who aren't. Though most dogs are sweet and loving there aren't many who are truly kind.

If you have the good fortune of meeting a kind dog, please share your thoughts with their parent. We're sure they'll appreciate it.

7. Gentle

Similar to kind, gentle dogs don't come around very often. At least not until they've aged a fair bit.

The gentle dogs of the world are those you will find in hospitals, nursing homes, daycares, and awareness events. Gentle dogs know the difference between young children, puppies, small animals, adults, grown dogs, and larger animals. They have a special characteristic that must be acknowledged.

8. Strong

Strength can mean a number of things, whether it be a physical or mental attribute. "Strong" dogs are often ones who have a tough exterior, and are capable of exerting considerable amounts of energy.

Strong dogs are often in excellent shape, thanks to their owners.

9. Healthy

A healthy dog is a happy dog, and the owners are directly responsible. Most pup-parents put a lot of hard work into making sure their fur baby is in tip-top shape. Healthy dogs have shiny coats, beautiful smiles, and a special bounce in their step.

The most rewarding thing for a pet parent to hear is that they are doing a good job. You can do this by telling them how healthy their dog looks!
