The Benefits of Lavender You And Your Dog Didn't Know

Many people take advantage of the benefits of lavender. Not only does lavender smell great, but it possesses calming and healing properties, making it a common household item. However, though you may enjoy having lavender in your home, does your dog?

Many pet parents are unaware that lavender is not harmful to dogs. In fact, lavender can be just as beneficial to them as it is to us! Here are a couple benefits lavender can have for your pup.

Healing

Lavender, and lavender essential oil can actually be used to soothe irritated skin. It is also a great preventative for skin infections, and helps heal wounds, burns, and ulcers. Lavender is perfect for dogs with itchy, dry, or sensitive skin, as well as dogs prone to hot spots.

If your dog is experiencing discomfort from hot spots, a small amount of lavender oil can be applied to the area. The oil’s pain killing and antibacterial properties will help heal the spot.

For dogs with sensitive, dry, or irritated skin, we suggest a lavender shampoo. Wash well with the shampoo weekly, and you’ll see a change in your dog in no time! He’ll be happy to be rid of his itchy skin.

Calming

The calming benefits of lavender have the same effect on dogs as they do on humans. Lavender affects the central nervous system, giving it calming, grounding, and almost sedation like effects. Lavender can be used to calm dogs prone to anxiety, or dogs experiencing stress.

Lavender oil can be rubbed on the dog’s neck to soothe anxious tension, or make him a little sleepy. A few drops of the oil can also be added to the dog’s food, giving him a full body calming sensation. Lavender essential oil is recommended for dogs who don't like to travel.

Lavender shampoo is recommended for dogs who are stressed out by bath time. The calming properties of lavender oil will suppress your dog’s nerves, while the healing properties will hydrate dry or itchy skin. Lavender oil is also commonly known as a shine booster for coats, leaving your dog looking and feeling fresh!

Insect Repellant

For the adventurous outdoorsy dogs, lavender can make a fantastic insect repellant! Lavender repels - but does not kill - fleas, ticks, and other unwanted woodland pests. Using a lavender spray or shampoo often will help prevent bites. You can use lavender on your own skin as well as your dog’s.

Where To Find Lavender Dog Shampoo

We suggest using a natural, organic shampoo, such as our Lavender Geranium Palmerosa Dog Shampoo. Our shampoo is made of 100% natural, organic, non toxic, and biodegradable ingredients, making it feel just as good as it smells. Not only does the shampoo contain lavender essential oil, but also aloe vera and olive oil for a shinier, healthier coat.

Though lavender and lavender oil are beneficial to dogs, they are not safe for use by cats, or pregnant/nursing dogs. Like any product, test a small amount on your dog before full or frequent use.
